BREAK 100, 90 AND 80, AND HOLE-IN-ONE PINS. Pins will be awarded to members who break 100, 90 or 80 for the very first time. This need not occur at the player’s own club but must be on a C.G.A. rated course. Put your signed and attested scorecard in your section’s locker (clearly marked with the fact that this is the first time you have broken a particular barrier) so that the captains can order the pins in time for the Wind-Up dinner. Hole-in-one pins are given every time you have one!
BIRDIES, EAGLES AND CHIP-INS: FULL season. Record every Birdie or Eagle or Chip-in you have in a Club Sanctioned Event = including all events on the Fixture Sheet, Match Play rounds, Best Ball rounds, Tee at Tor and Club Tournament rounds. All players are encouraged to record their birdies (one stroke less than par), eagles (two strokes less than par) or chip-ins (no putts are taken, the ball goes in the hole from off the green) made throughout the year (at Tor Hill Golf Course only). There is a separate competition for the morning and business section. At the end of the season, prizes are awarded to the golfer who has the most birdies, eagles or chip-ins. See posters in the locker room for recording purposes.
Ringer Board: A ringer board will be placed in the locker room for each section. The idea is to determine the lowest score you could achieve at Tor Hill. At the start of the season, the first round you complete place your name and each gross stroke count on the chart. As the season progresses, maintain the chart by crossing off higher scores on any particular hole and replacing them with the lower scores you achieve. Any time you play at Tor Hill qualifies for this event. Prizes will be awarded according to LOW NET scores at the end of the season. Everyone has a chance to win!
Best Ball Partners: A chart is placed on the bulletin board for each section. Choose a best ball partner-someone you will be able to golf with several times throughout the season. Write your names on the chart. Each time you play a regular 18-hole round of golf with your partner at Tor Hill (on the same day and course, not necessarily together), mark your “best ball” round on the Best Ball sheet. At the end of the season, the three (3) lowest best ball scores will be totaled and prizes awarded accordingly.
Best Ball Scoring: Each golfer uses their full current handicap as of the date of the round. Mark the strokes you get on each hole by placing a tick (*) or ticks (**) according to the difficulty of the hole, i.e. you divide your handicap up among the 18 holes according to the handicap rating for the yellow tees. The lower net score on each hole, between you and your partner, is the one used to determine the best ball score.
Match Play: Each section has a friendly competition between those wishing to participate in “Match Play”. Each player is guaranteed two (2) games and they use their own handicaps during play to level the playing field. Anyone can enter and it's a fun way to meet club members. Your handicap must be up to date before playing, i.e. all scores must be entered into the computer prior to starting the match. The honor is determined by the order of the draw or in the absence of a draw by lot, i.e. a coin may be tossed to determine who gets to play first on hole #1. It is not the lowest “gross” score per hole that wins, but rather your handicap that determines each hole. Depending on your handicap, you may be “spotted” extra points on any particular hole. If you have any questions, please ask one of the executive members to provide an explanation.
Booking for Match Play is the responsibility of the players involved. Draws for match play are posted in the locker room. All games must be played using the honor system. Watch for further details, sign-up sheets and instruction in the locker room. Observe the deadlines given for playing your match.
Honor system: The player who is to play first from the teeing ground is said to have the "honor".If your golf ball is further away from the hole, you play first. Everyone has a chance to win!!
